Team Ghana stars Olympic campaign today

Young Ghanaian athlete Kaya Adwoa Forson will start Team Ghana's campaign at this year's Rio Olympic Games today at 16:00 GMT.

The 14 year old swimmer will compete in the women’s 200 meters freestyle heat at the Olympic Aquatics Stadium. Forson will be in Lane three this afternoon for her first Olympic participation.

She becomes the first Ghanaian Olympian in the swimming event.

Forson represented Ghana at the World swimming Championship in Kazan, Russia in 2015, where she placed 66th and 44th in the 200m freestyle and 200m backstroke respectively.

The Spanish based Ghanaian was the youngest swimmer (13) to compete in the 2015 world championship.

Team Ghana sent sixteen athletes to this year’s global sports festival in Rio.
